Cartagena is a city located on the shores of the Caribbean Sea. Its colorful and charming streets make it the gateway to South America. In Colombia, it is situated in the north of the country and is the capital of the Bolívar region. In 1951, the International Bartenders Association (IBA) was founded in Torquay, United Kingdom, on February 24 by seven founding members (guilds): Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The first president was Bill Tarling from UKBG, followed by George Baker the following year, then George Sieve from Switzerland, Pietro Grandi from Italy, and Kurt Sorensen from Denmark.

The IBA thrived, and by 1976, it had incorporated 23 new members, reaching a total of 30 member countries. Today, the IBA has 67 members, 8 of whom are observers.
